About this collection

Northfield History Collaborative partner

Bridgewater Township, in keeping with standard practices for townships in the state, has retained records going back the first days of its existence. Among those are the volumes created by the township to record minutes. Bridgewater's initial contribution to the Northfield History Collaborative contains the carefully transcribed contents of six of its earliest books, covering 1858 through 1889. These transcriptions were first envisioned by Geraldine Reuvers, clerk of the township from 1986 to 2002. She undertook to hand-transcribe the records, and with the able assistance of the Rice County Genealogical Society, the support and guidance of the township clerk and board, her vision has become this collection. The collection includes includes both the scans of the originals and the transcribed content. Also part of the initial collection are various roads orders, elector lists, hand-drawn maps and official oaths of office.

The idea of transcribing the old records into electronic form, not just as images, but as searchable texts, was first brought forth by Geraldine Reuvers, clerk of the township from 1986 to 2002. Her idea finally reached fruition through the efforts of volunteers of the Rice County Genealogical Society, with the support and guidance of the township clerk and board. This collection is the result of her vision and the efforts of the volunteers that believed in that vision.
