Patch from the World War I scrapbook of Laurence Gould
Description
Round home-made patch with a white letter A inside a red circular letter O taken from a scrapbook that belonged to Laurence McKinley Gould during World War I. The patch stands for the Third United States Army, organized in November 1918 at Ligny-en-Barrois, France, for the purpose of advancing into Germany and occupying the bridgehead at Coblenz during World War I. The letters "A" and "O" also stand for the Army of Occupation during World War I. Gould served in the Third Army with the Army of Occupation in Coblenz.
