The dry hill oak savanna is located on the west side of the road. Important trees include oaks, prairie crabapple, and hawthorn. Over time, additional species such as boxelder, cottonwood, and buckthorn invaded the area. In the winter of 2012-13 the Koester Farm Partnership received DNR grant for Biomass Removal for Habitat Restoration. During the winter, unwanted trees and brush were removed and taken to District Energy for power generation. Follow-up efforts included mowing and burning to control brush and stimulate the growth of native plant species.
